Our Veterinarians

Dr. Dennis Diemer

Dr. Dennis Diemer

Dr. Diemer has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1990.  He has been with Prairie View Animal Hospital since 1992.  He grew up in rural Hampton, IA and attended Iowa State University where he received his BS in Animal Science in 1986 and his DVM in 1990.  Dr. Diemer’s veterinary interests are in laser surgery, geriatrics, and oral surgery. Some of his hobbies include fishing, landscaping, racquetball, and scuba diving.

He primarily enjoys scuba diving in Little Cayman. Dr. Diemer and his wife Peggy reside in rural Sycamore with their dog Ariel. They have two grown daughters Sara, who works as a practice manager at PVAH, and Jennifer who works as a music teacher in Dubuque, IA.

Dr. David Emmert

Dr. David Emmert

Dr. Emmert has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1989.  He has been with Prairie View Animal Hospital since 1990.  He grew up in Geneseo, IL and attended Iowa State University where he majored in Dairy Science. He received his DVM in 1989. Dr. Emmert enjoys participating in endurance events such as marathons, half marathons, and triathlons.

He also enjoys fishing, boating, traveling, and sports (Cubs baseball, Bears football, Iowa State and Northern Illinois football).  Dr. Emmert and his wife Sheri reside in Sycamore with their adopted “pocket pittie” Clooney, and their Terrier mix Madi. Dr. Emmert has four successful adult children; Dani, David, Claire, and Caden.

Amanda

Amanda has worked at Prairie View since July of 2022. She grew up in Elgin where she graduated from Elgin Community College with an associates in science with honors and then later completed her Veterinary Assistant certificate at Kishwaukee Community College in 2022. Amanda and her fiancé Vince enjoy building racecars, dirt track racing, attending Nascar races and other sporting events. They have a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix named Buddy that they rescued from TAILS in 2018 who is their whole world.

Delaney

Delaney J has worked at Prairie View Animal Hospital for 10 years. Delaney grew up in Sycamore, IL and graduated with her BA in Nursing from Aurora University. She is currently also working as a Nurse at Kishwaukee Hospital. She has a mastiff named Bella, a golden retriever named Dolly, a lab named June, and a cat named Simba. In her free time she enjoys hiking, and spending time with her family.

Nancy, CVT

Nancy is a CVT and has worked at PVAH for 27 years and in veterinary medicine for almost 40! She has 3 grown sons and loves spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoys taking walks, traveling and reading. Although her husband has been retired for a few years, working helps keep her young both mentally and physically! She is constantly learning from her younger coworkers!

Sara D is one of our Practice Managers here at Prairie View. Sara grew up in Sycamore, IL and graduated with her BA in Biology from Augustana College in Illinois, her academic passions are in veterinary medicine and ocean conservation. She is currently working remotely with a manta ray research group to study a population in Mexico! She has a black lab at home named Ariel that is her whole world. In her free time Sara enjoys spoiling Ariel, scuba diving, dog training, and just about anything outdoors!

Sarah C.

Sarah C has worked at Prairie View since December 2007.  Sarah grew up in Chicago and moved to the DeKalb area in 1993, where she attended Sycamore High School.  She graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2022 with a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Wellness. She has 3 cats named Bruce, Ralph, and Henry. Sarah enjoys outdoor activities such as gardening, camping, and hiking. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter and going to Renaissance Fairs.

Sarah M.

Sarah M, CVBL

Sarah M is one of our practice managers and has been with Prairie View Animal Hospital since October of 2002. She has a Beagle mix named Irwin, a very old blind poodle named Tilly, a tripod Maltese named Sprout, a Chihuahua named Blossom, and a hydrocephalous Shih Tzu named Fern. She also has several cats named Bindi Sue, Blacky, Gracie, and Rayne. She is also an advocate for dogs with MPS, a rare genetic condition. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys traveling with her husband Brian, visiting national parks, hiking, and camping. She is also a board member and foster home for Cause for Paws Rescue.

Kristen, CVT

Kristen joined our team in January of 2023 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She has been working as a technician since graduating in 2016 from the Veterinary Medical Technology program at Joliet Junior College. Kristen has been working with dogs and cats since 2010 when she started working at a doggie daycare and boarding facility. She recently moved to Dekalb with her fiance Josh and their two cats Archer and Marty. In her free time she enjoys playing video games, board games, spending time with friends and family and has found a new interest in gardening.

Terra

Terra B is currently working toward her CVT certification through Penn Foster while pursuing her passion for animal care. She enjoys rescuing bottle baby lambs that are in need, caring for her three dogs — Duke, Tito, and Moe — on her weekends, she also shows her four horses on the AQHA circuit. Outside of animals and school, she and her fiancé, Dylan, love spending their free time boating together.

Madysen Howieson is a receptionist at PVAH, where she has been working for about a month and a half. Originally from Geneva, Illinois, she moved to Genoa, Illinois, about 10 years ago. Mady is a 2024 graduate of Genoa Kingston High School. She has five cats named Luna, Nuggie, Sassy, Habibi, and Charles. Mady’s favorite activities include traveling, spending time with friends, going to Chicago to eat at her favorite restaurant, Pompeii, and watching NASCAR or F1 races.

Maddy

Maddy started her career in veterinary medicine here at Prairie View in 2018. She loves all types of animals and has also worked as a zookeeper, equine vet tech, and farrier. In her free time, Maddy enjoys spending time with her own animals at home that include 6 dogs, 6 cats, 5 horses, 2 donkeys, 3 goats, 1 potbelly pig, and 1 bearded dragon.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a receptionist here at Prairie View Animal Hospital! She joined our team April of 2026. Rebecca grew up in Schaumburg, Illinois and moved to the DeKalb area in 2014, where she attended Kishwaukee College for her pharmacy technician certification. Her special interests are human and animal health. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys traveling, attending NASCAR races, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys taking care of her 15 chickens! Rebecca has two cats named Bailey and Read. She also has a miniature Pinscher mix named Bruno.

Evie

Evie

Evie has been a member of the Prairie View Animal Hospital Team since August of 2024 and goes back and forth from working up front as a receptionist and heading back to our treatment area as an assistant/technician in training! She has a rottweiler mix named Raven and a tortoise shell cat named Winnie that she absolutely adores. When she’s not working Evie loves to read, and spend time outside whether it be for working on her garden or walking through the forest preserve.

Jacie

Jacie began working at Prairie View as a technician in August 2024 after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Illinois State University in 2021. With a lifelong passion for agriculture and animal care, Jacie was actively involved in 4-H, where she gained hands-on experience raising a variety of livestock animals and developed a strong appreciation for youth leadership and agricultural education. Outside of work, Jacie enjoys volunteering with 4-H, kayaking and spending time with her three dogs—two Labrador Retrievers, Waylon and Remi, and a foster-failure pup named Wiley.

Cara, CVT

Cara is a CVT who graduated from Rockford Career College with an Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been working at Prairie View Animal Hospital for almost a year and truly enjoys caring for animals and supporting their health and well-being every day. Outside of work, she is a devoted animal lover with five dogs — Rusty, Leia, Ivy, Jimmy, and Nova — and four cats: Asher, Grimm, Reaper, and Boots. In her free time, Cara and her boyfriend Walter love exploring nature and going on hikes with their dogs.
